Calvin & food
Calvin & Hobbes

Calvin, like other kids, occasionally needs something to eat. He is not always thrilled with what his mother serves him though. If he likes the food or not isn't important, because he has often decided not to eat it long before it is being served.

Not seldom Calvin lets out a awe-inspiring scream when his mother tells him what's for dinner. Even if he doesn't always now what kind of food this actually is, his skepticism takes control, and he refuses to eat it. His parents often have to force him to eat his food. They both try to teach him not to be so fastidious when it comes to food. Even when his face is turned inside out in pain and fear of food poisoning, he is told to eat up. When his mother occasionally tells him that he has eaten this food before, Calvin has to admit that he may be able to swallow it without unbearable pains... His father also has a method that makes the kid eat, however Calvin's mother is not so thrilled about this...

Sometimes food tastes good though, especially when it comes on a tray, just like in a fancy restaurant. Even if Calvin is deep inside one of his imaginations, he can always be brought back with a nicely served sandwich and a cup with hot chocolate.

Calvin loves barbecue, but having to wait so darn long for the coals to get hot. Therefore his tries to make his parents take him to McDonalds instead. All Calvin thinks of is to stop his growing hunger, while his dad, on the other hand, appreciates these quite moments.

However, cereal is Calvin's favorite food, especially one type called "chocolate frosted sugar bombs". He loves to sit in front of the TV and eat this, and because much of his day is spent here, he consumes a considerable amount of this cereal. As this is far from the most healthy food around, his parents are naturally not to thrilled about his love for this cereal. The fact that he likes it even better after pouring half of their sugar supply over it, doesn't make it any more nutritious.

WHAT'S THAT CEREAL YOU'RE EATING?
IT'S MY NEW FAVORITE,
"CHOCOLATE FROSTED SUGAR BOMBS."
HAVE A TASTE.
THANK YOU.
MFFPBTH!! S-SW-SW SWEET!!
ACTUALLY, THEY'RE KINDA BLAND TILL YOU SCOOP SUGAR ON 'EM.

The least popular food his mother can possibly serve him is oatmeal. Because of it's color it doesn't look very delicate, and it doesn't smell too good either. Calvin is also convinced that the oatmeal is alive, and will try to escape from his plate. Calvin makes brave attempts to sabotage this escape, by killing it with his fork.

When his babysitter, Rosalyn, cooks, she is met by an endless stream of objections from Calvin. Even if he isn't always pleased with his mother's cooking, Rosalyn's skills in the kitchen are too bad for words, according to Calvin. When he compares her cooking to his mother's, there is no doubt who is the greatest! However, like most kids, he never thinks about complimenting his mother for her cooking when she is around to hear it. Thinking of how often she is criticized by Calvin, such a compliment would probably have been greatly appreciated.
